چکیده
Dedicated to my dear parents iv ACKNOWLEDGEMENT Until after I finished the study for my Ph.D. degree, did I realize the hard work and relentless effort needed for such a title with honors. My advisor, Dr. Wenjing Ye, guided me through this path, which is filled with thistles and thorns as well as flowers and happiness, using her patience, love and care for her students, her insight in issues involved in the research. She taught me how to find the right direction when I was standing at the crossroad and wondering. She is the best model for me in my lifelong journey of career development. Thanks. I would like to acknowledge valuable discussions with all my committee members, I also want to thank my parents who were my backbone in finishing this study. They encouraged me whenever I was depressed, supported me by sharing my burdens. They are the most selfless parents in the world. I hope my little progress can reward them to some extent. My husband had some precious discussions with me about my research. His love and support makes my dream come true. Thank you, Zhiwei. My colleagues here in the MEMS group in Georgia Tech also helped me to gather information and solve the problems in my research. I would like to thank Nathan Masters especially for his kind help and many discussions with him from which I learned a lot.

A new fast multipole boundary element method for solving 2-D Stokes flow problems based on a dual BIE formulation
A fast multipole boundary element method (BEM) is presented in this paper for large-scale analysis of two-dimensional (2-D) Stokes flow problems based on a dual boundary integral equation (BIE) formulation. In this dual BIE formulation, a linear combination of the conventional BIE for velocity and the hypersingular BIE for traction is employed to achieve better conditioning for the BEM systems ...
متن کاملA new fast multipole boundary element method for solving large-scale two-dimensional elastostatic problems
A new fast multipole boundary element method (BEM) is presented in this paper for large-scale analysis of two-dimensional (2-D) elastostatic problems based on the direct boundary integral equation (BIE) formulation. In this new formulation, the fundamental solution for 2-D elasticity is written in a complex form using the two complex potential functions in 2-D elasticity. In this way, the multi...
متن کاملModified Fixed Grid Finite Element Method to Solve 3D Elasticity Problems of Functionally Graded Materials
In the present paper, applicability of the modified fixed grid finite element method in solution of three dimensional elasticity problems of functionally graded materials is investigated. In the non-boundary-fitted meshes, the elements are not conforming to the domain boundaries and the boundary nodes which are used in the traditional finite element method for the application of boundary condit...

Coupled BE-FE Scheme for Three-Dimensional Dynamic Interaction of a Transversely Isotropic Half-Space with a Flexible Structure
The response of structures bonded to the surface of a transversely isotropic half-space (TIHS) under the effect of time-harmonic forces is investigated using a coupled FE-BE scheme. To achieve this end, a Finite Element program has been developed for frequency domain analysis of 3D structures, as the first step. The half-space underlying the structure is taken into consideration using a Boundar...
متن کاملAn adaptive fast multipole boundary element method for three-dimensional acoustic wave problems based on the Burton–Miller formulation
The high solution costs and non-uniqueness difficulties in the boundary element method (BEM) based on the conventional boundary integral equation (CBIE) formulation are two main weaknesses in the BEM for solving exterior acoustic wave problems. To tackle these two weaknesses, an adaptive fast multipole boundary element method (FMBEM) based on the Burton–Miller formulation for 3-D acoustics is p...
